Art has always been a way of feeling connected with my family. My sister and father were both amazing artists and I've always wanted to be just like them. My father passed away when I was 6 and art is just a way to feel close to him in some way. I enjoy all types of art, Sewing, pastels etc. Non objective art is my favorite because you can interpret it in different ways and there are really no rules.

I like to express my art in many ways, ranging from self-portraits to painting to doodling. Random sparks of creativity appear at odd times, so I quickly jot down my vision before it disappears. Photography is another way I express my art as I capture what I see in front of me and copy it onto the paper.

The art projects were very cool and something I haven't worked with before. I liked reading other people’s poems and listening to them explain the backstory of their poems. I also loved the way people interpreted the assignments and how they explained their drawings. This has opened my mind up to look at things differently and how to express myself more.

As a hands-on learner, I like exploring different types of art; photography, textiles, watercolor, etc. I deem my artwork finished when I find it appealing to my eye. It can vary from different aesthetics, from ethereal to monstrous. I try to capture different moments of my life on paper, such as memories I had and what I think the monsters under my bed look like. I would like to allow others to see the way I see the world around me through my art.

I make art that tells my life story so far. I add events as they come. I prefer to color things with colored pencils or markers. Sometimes it's more vibrant. Visual poems help me and others who learn visually understand what they are reading. I am kind of shy so art helps me express myself. I just want people to hear my voice without me speaking.

My name is Taja Riley, I’m not the type of person to express myself so easily at first and drawing gave me the chance to put feelings and expression in the painting. Creativity Caught Me Making was an amazing way to learn new concepts and ideas and I enjoy drawing creative forms of art such as paintings, sketches, etc.. and art is a way for me to express myself and feeling.

During this whole year off Covid-19 art has been a great escape and a great way to live life and express myself. Trying different forms of art that I have never tried was fun and interesting as well. Film and  shows really helped in this long journey. Many forget that film and televisions are forms of art as well. Due to music and books it has through this tough period as well. Art does make the world a little more comfortable. Music has been one of the popular forms of art that everyone around the world love and enjoy.

Mackera will be attending Columbia College Chicago in  Fall 2021! Congratulations Mackera, and good luck with your Bachelors of Arts in Film and Television, Class of 2025!

Art to me is a way for me to relax but also express myself. I use all mediums of art whenever, wherever. I can sometimes just use pencil to doodle on my homework or even paint on a canvas. I sometimes even just write poems for fun. Art helps me view the world from different perspectives. It also gives you a chance to view, relate, and connect to other cultures. I love testing out new ways to use art and am even getting into photography!

I have spent the past few weeks exploring different art mediums in this class. I usually am not very artistic, but I have always enjoyed looking at/listening to/otherwise experiencing art. I like how every different piece gives a different perspective into the artist’s life. I chose to do a collage with different images of things associated with queer culture in the US. I think too often people focus only on what is lost to those who don’t fit into society’s cisheteronormative expectations. While it is important to fight against these unjust expectations, it is also important to recognize the joy and happiness that can come with being queer. Everything I have learned so far in this course and my own life experience has helped me to put together this final project, and I hope that you enjoy it.

I have been really interested in drawing for as long as I can remember, I haven’t really reached out into different mediums other than watercolor but that is one of the things that I look forward to doing, and one reason I joined this program. I always draw to express my imagination, when I get a certain image in my head I try my best to think of a way to draw it. I hope that in the future I can find different mediums to express my imagination.
