Across the world on Memorial Day, Monday May 30, 2022 we remember that all gave some and some gave all. We are connected by sharing the stories of the military services members we have lost and honoring their lives.

Here are recorded videos of individuals sharing their stories and memories of others from past NVAM Memorial Day Programs. As we have learned during the COVID-19 pandemic, even when we cannot be together, we are able to commemorate with the same level of honor and personal story by exploring more. Ned B. Ricks, US Army Vietnam Veteran reading Fiddler's Green

The Cavalrymen's Poem, also entitled "Fiddlers' Green" was published in the U.S. Army's Cavalry Journal in 1923 and became associated with the 1st Cavalry Division. Fiddler’s Green is a legendary imagined afterlife where soldiers live in eternal bliss...

Fiddler’s Green

Halfway down the trail to Hell,
In a shady meadow green
Are the Souls of all dead Troopers camped,
Near a good old-time canteen.
And this eternal resting place
Is known as Fiddlers’ Green.

Marching past, straight through to Hell
The Infantry are seen.
Accompanied by the Engineers,
Artillery and Marines,
For none but the shades of Cavalrymen
Dismount at Fiddlers’ Green.

Though some go curving down the trail
To seek a warmer scene.
No Trooper ever gets to Hell
Ere he’s emptied his canteen.
And so rides back to drink again
With friends at Fiddlers’ Green.

And so when man and horse go down
Beneath a saber keen,
Or in a roaring charge of fierce melee
You stop a bullet clean,
And the hostiles come to get your scalp,
Just empty your canteen,
And put your pistol to your head
And go to Fiddlers’ Green.

As we commemorate, honor, and reflect on the sacrifices of our fallen service members this weekend, please consider a gift of support in honor of a friend or family member lost in the line of duty, or all those who have died serving our country with a memorial gift of any amount to support our mission.
Remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Your support matters.

Reflect. Preserve. Share.
