Programs & Events

A Place to Create. A Community to Belong To.

Our programs exist because we believe art can do what words alone cannot — give shape to experience, open pathways to healing, and build bridges between veterans and the world they returned to.

Supporting Veteran Artists at Every Stage

In-person, Chicago · Year-long

NVAM Artist Fellowship

The NVAM Artist Fellowship recognizes an exceptional artist each year with a stipend ranging from $3,000 to $10,000 based on need, while fostering the next generation of artists who have served in the U.S. military through meaningful connections with the broader arts community and access to developmental resources.

In-person, Chicago · Ongoing

NVAM Open Studios

Artists who have served bring an invaluable and distinct perspective to our cultural landscape, enriching our communities with their unique experiences and insights. NVAM Open Studios provides space, context, and community support for local artists to create, showcase, and share their work — encompassing community engagement, exhibition opportunities, and networking avenues essential for artistic growth and professional development.

Schools & community centers · Year-round

School & Community Outreach

Bringing veteran voices into classrooms and communities — so that the stories carried in these works are heard, honored, and remembered. We offer curated exhibition tours, artist talks, and curriculum resources for educators.

In-person & livestreamed · Monthly

Artist Talks & Lectures

An ongoing series of conversations with veteran artists, curators, historians, and mental health professionals — exploring the intersection of art, service, and the long work of coming home.
